HE HAS 6 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN THE TECH INDUSTRY, AND HE'S WORKED IN NUMEROUS TECHNICAL AND NON-TECHNICAL CAPACITIES. HE HAS AN MA IN INTERNATIONAL ECONOMICS AND BA IN APPLIED ECONOMICS FROM AMERICAN UNIVERSITY AND CORNELL UNIVERSITY, RESPECTIVELY.
Akinyi leads enterprise marketing at Nova Credit, a fintech company helps accelerating the financial inclusion of newcomers to the U.S. Prior to her current role, Akinyi managed communications and corporate social responsibility at WorldRemit, the pioneering digital remittance company, in London. She has written for NPR, Quartz, Slate, CNBC, Forbes, and the World Economic Forum on business and culture. She holds an MSc from the London School of Economics and BA from Yale University.
Dion is the Manager of Equity and Anti-Bias at the NYC Department of Education, where he engages with staff across the central office to identify and address disparities through training and coaching. Dion also serves as an HR Professional and Coach through Bravely, a B2B service that provides access to on-time coaching for employees across all levels of an organization. Dion holds his BA in Human Development and Social Relations from Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, MI.
Daphne Charles is a Software Engineer at American Express, and a diversity, equity, and inclusion consultant with Smith & Charles. She has a Masters Degree in Information Science and a Bachelors degree in Information Technology from Rutgers University. As a DEI consultant, she specializes in helping women and people of color break into the tech industry through tailored mentoring services and career coaching.
TREMAINE IS A PROGRAM COORDINATOR FOR AN ADOLESCENT HEALTH EDUCATION
PROGRAM AT A HOSPITAL IN NYC AND AN INDEPENDENT DEI CONSULTANT WITH SMITH&CHARLES. Tremaine has a love for the intersection of identity and
education. In pursuing his interests, he has coordinated and sat on panels for diversity in
America and abroad. Smith has conducted research on the attitudes towards migration in
Istanbul, Turkey, and the interactions of Black and Jewish Diaspora in Boston, Brazil, and
Ghana. He's created toolkits to help people understand the LGBTQ+ community, and led
discussions surrounding gender-based violence in communities of color. He is passionate about
increasing educational opportunities for people of color in cities across the world. He is a
member of Out in Tech NYC, and is pursuing dual MPA/MA in International Education
Management.
